CARING FOR YOUR LEATHER GOODS
The best thing you can do for your leather product is use it! Regular use softens the fibres and releases natural oils, keeping the leather healthy and conditioned.
Every Wild Pally piece is already oiled and ready to go, you don’t need to add anything unless it starts to feel dry.
If your leather does dry out, you can use:
- Leather conditioner (e.g. Oakwood Leather Conditioner, Fiebing’s Aussie Leather Conditioner)
- Leather oil (e.g. Oakwood Leather Oil, Pure Neatsfoot Oil)
In most cases, use conditioner rather than oil. Conditioner is thicker, absorbs slowly, and won’t cause dark patches even if it touches the back (flesh side). However, cream based products can get caught in grooves or tooled work.
Tip: Rub conditioner into a soft cloth first to remove clumps, then gently apply it. This helps prevent buildup in tooling or grooves.
When to use oil instead:
Use oil only if the conditioner gets stuck in tooling, or on old leather pieces where a few dark patches don’t matter. Oil applies easily on carved designs but will darken leather faster.
If you do use oil:
- Apply it only to the smooth (front) side.
- Avoid the back, as oil soaks through quickly and causes patchy spots.
- Even small drips over the edge can leave permanent marks.
With careful application, oil can still be a great choice for detailed tooling.
How to Apply:
- Apply a small amount of your chosen product to a soft cloth (wear gloves).
- Test it on a hidden area first.
- Gently rub into the leather in circular motions.
